A Quest for Social Skills for Students with Autism or Asperger's JoEllen Cumpata & Susan Fell ~ Future Horizons: Arlington, Texas

Asperger's on the Job:

An excellent ready-made curriculum created for middle school students by a speech language pathologist and a social worker and designed to be used in the school setting. There are six units: School Survival Basics; Understanding Emotions; Communication Skills; Making Friends and Interacting with Peers; Personal Safety and Vocational Readiness. Each unit starts with goals and objectives, experiential stories, activity sheets and ready-made parent updates to send home with the students so the parents can reinforce skills in the home environment. Within each unit, key components to the acquisition of each skill addressed in the unit are taught and practiced to help ensure generalization of the skill. It also covers bullying, dating, revisiting peer pressure and internet safety. A free CD of printable worksheets, letters and forms is included with the book. A must have for school SLPs, social workers, guidance counselors, teachers and others who work with middle school students on the spectrum.
